From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 20, 2020): NBI arrests 2 suspected Abu Sayyaf members in Pasay (By Benjamin Pulta)
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday announced the arrest of two alleged members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Pasay City.
NBI Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Director Eric B. Distor identified the two as Jamar Ibi a.k.a. “Bas” and Raden Jamil a.k.a. “Tamiya” who were arrested on Oct. 12 and 19, respectively, on the strength of a court-issued warrant for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom.
Ibi and Jamil were linked in the kidnapping of Jehova’s Witnesses members in Patikul, Sulu in 2002.
Distor said the operation arose following information received by the NBI-Counter-Terrorism Division (NBI-CTD) that certain Abu Sayyaf members who served as perimeter guards at the time of the kidnapping were seen in Pasay City.
The two were positively identified by the witness from a photo line-up.
The NBI-CTD agents together with Armed Forces of the Philippines counterparts conducted a series of casing and surveillance operations on October 12, leading to the arrest of Ibi.
Acting on the same intelligence report, the NBI-CTD operatives together with the AFP counterparts launched another operation that led to the apprehension of Tamiya on October 19.
Both are now detained at the NBI Detention Facility.
Since January this year, the NBI-CTD has arrested five ASG members, Distor said.
