From the Visayan Daily Star (Jul 4): Aying hits Reds for double talk
Army Maj. Gen. Jon Aying lashed out yesterday against communist rebels for stepping up their attacks against civilians in the Negros Island Region, while they are trying to project that they are still a force to reckon with.
They want to shock the government, and to project in the peace process, that they are still strong, so their demands will be granted,' Aying said at the 8 th founding anniversary of the Katilingban Sang Nag-Hiliusa Inc. (KASANAG) at a hotel in Bacolod City.
But the other angle shows that they are not interested in the peace process, Aying, who is the 3rd Infantry Division commander, said.
The local commands of the New People's Army in northern and central Negros owned up responsibilities in the ambush-slay of a sugar planter and his driver in Calatrava, and the liquidation of a former Army soldier in Canlaon City, Negros Island Region.
The NPA also burned an abandoned Army detachment in Escalante City.
President Rodrigo Duterte has called on the CPP-NPA-NDF not to give him a “double face”, noting that communist rebels launched a series of attacks nationwide, even while there are initiatives to talk peace.
Aying, who supervises three Army infantry brigades operating in Negros Island Region, Central and Western Visayas, said he observed that while the groups of the CPP and NDF want peace talks, the NPA does not.
So it is double talk. In other words, traitor, he stressed.
Aying said the military operations in NIR will continue. “There is a need to pursue them and let them pay for their numerous atrocities, criminal and murderous acts,” he added, apparently referring to the NPA.
The NPA Leonardo Panaligan Command earlier scored Gen. Aying for calling them “terrorist and bandits” after the ambush and killing of sugar planter Norberto Lumayo and his driver, Danilo Braga, in Calatrava.
