Soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion yesterday seized a third camp of the New People’s Army-this time in Sitio Mabunga, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamayan City, Negros Occidental.
Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman, 943th Infantry Battalion commander, said that the newly discovered rebel camp could accommodate about 100 persons. He also raised the possibility that it could be a training area for recruits.
The abandoned rebel camp has three security outposts, battle positions, a noticeable formation area, makeshift classrooms, kitchen, barracks, with some improvised training facilities.
Guzman said the discovery of another rebel camp was an offshoot of their two weeks of combat and clearing operations.
A solar panel, training materials, and paraphernalia were among the items left behind and recovered at the rebel camp.
On May 13, 94IB troopers discovered a camp of the NPA in Sitio Bunsad of the same barangay, that yielded an Improvised Explosive Device andan AK-47 assault rifle ammunition.
More than a week after, another NPA camp was also discovered at Sitio Lower Olitao in the same barangay, which indicated that the hinterlands of Brgy. Buenavista in Himamaylan City is being frequented by NPA rebels.
Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said that rebel presence is detrimental to the progress of the barangay and consequently, of Himamaylan City as a whole.*

Human remains, believed to be a victim of New People’s Army execution, were exhumed by the military and police at Purok Pag-asa, Barangay Proper, Paquibato District on Tuesday.
1Lt Jeffrey Paulo Alba, the civil-military operations officer of the 16th Infantry Battalion, said they received a tip from a concerned citizen regarding human bones buried in the area.
According to the information they received, the bones belonged to someone who was executed by the communist group in 2012. When they went to the area, they found that the grave was very shallow, or less than a meter deep.
The individual was wearing a pair of green shorts and a black shirt with the word “freedom” printed across the chest.
Lt Col. Joel Salaguinto, the 16IB commander, said, “This discovery manifests the cooperation of the citizens of Paquibato District in order to expose the cruelty of the communist terrorist group.”
“I urged everyone, especially in Paquibato, to continue giving their full support, cooperation, and participation in all government’s initiatives to sustain peace and conflict-resilient communities,” Salaguinto said.
The remains were transferred to the Police Regional Office Crime Laboratory to possibly identify the victim.

CALOOCAN CITY, May 27 (PIA) --The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in partnership with the Department of National Defense (DND) is set to provide livelihood training to former rebels who have returned in the folds of the law.
This after the two agencies signed a 3-year MOA on May 15, stating that TESDA will provide free skills training, assessment, and issue certifications to qualified DND personnel who have undergone skills training and Trainers Methodology Course.
The trained DND personnel will assist TESDA by conducting skills training programs to former rebels, Indigenous people (IPs), and residents in far flung areas of the country.
The two government agencies will also form a Joint Technical Working Committee (JWTC) and designate their representatives who will conduct regular meetings to formulate, monitor, implement, and evaluate collaborative training programs and activities.
TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña assured that the skills training that will be provided to identified DND personnel will be relevant and up-to-date.
"Our experts and trainers will give a free trainers methodology course for them to ensure that they would have the necessary competencies of a Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainer," he said.
Lapeña also thanked DND for trusting TESDA
"I would like to thank Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana for allowing TESDA to train its trusted personnel so they in turn, could train IPs and former rebels which affirms their mandate of being a reliable partner in national development and promotion of the welfare of the Filipino people," he added.
The DND also agreed that it will allow the use of its facilities and equipment for training and assessment, including the use of its vehicles to implement mobile training programs in far-flung areas in cooperation with TESDA Technology Institutions.
Lorenzana shared that TESDA and DND have been planning for a stronger partnership to create a secured and stable environment on conflict-affected areas to foster progress in far flung communities of the country.
"We've been talking about this for a long time and we recognize the importance of TESDA. Now that we are seeing a better implementation of the TESDA mission, I convey my sincerest gratitude for its whole trust and confidence to DND and AFP," he said.

CAMP SUMUROY, Catarman, Northern Samar, May 27 -- A CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) leader identified as Allan Aguilando @Jarex, secretary of the Sangay ng Partido sa Platun (SPP), Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) Emporium, was killed in a firefight with the elements of the 43rd Infantry (We Search) Battalion, Philippine Army on May 26 at 5:57 a.m in Brgy. New Rizal, this municipality.
The encounter ensued when the government security forces chanced upon the five CNTs who were reportedly harassing the local populace of said village.
The killed CNT leader is said to be notorious of sowing terror to the people whenever the NPA demands food and money from them.
A .45 caliber pistol was seized by the elements of the 43rd IB at the encounter site.
Lieutenant Colonel Raymundo C. Picut Jr., commanding officer of the 43IB lauded his operating troops for the achievement and expressed gratitude to the barangay residents for providing timely information leading to the success of the gunfight.
“Without the good rapport established by the Army with the local community, this internal security operation is impossible,” Picut said.
In his statement, Colonel Lowell R. Tan, commander of the 803rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade, Philippine Army said, “The neutralization of the enemy, with the aid of civilian information, is a manifestation of the people’s desire to stop the harassment caused by the terrorists. The activity aims to prevent communist terrorist groups from advancing their own agenda and taking advantage of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Information is imperative to end a crisis. The people in hard-to-reach communities need to be informed on the pandemic and for them not to be deceived by the communist terrorist group, who despite the crisis, advances their evil and terroristic desires,” 3rd Mech Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Norberto Aromin Jr. said.

Placer, Surigao del Norte- On May 18, 2020, the 30th Infantry (Python) Battalion continues to provide assistance by delivering Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donated to Government Health Centers of Gigaquit rural health unit and Provincial Health Office of Dinagat Island province.
Said PPEs were donated by the Outstanding Women in Nation’s Service (TOWNS) Foundation Inc. Three (3) boxes were handed over to PHO Dinagat Island containing four hundred (400) pcs of face masks, four (4) boxes of gloves and twelve (12) pcs of alcohol with dispenser and another one (1) box for RHU Gigaquit with one hundred (100) face masks, four (4) box of gloves and four (4) pcs of dispenser with alcohol.
The two health centers in the provinces of Surigao del Norte and dinagat island are among health units that solely provided free basic healthcare services despite their limited resources.
The handing over of PPE was facilitated by Major Jasper Gacayan, the Executive Officer together with 2LT Benjamin Elisand de Dios, the Civil Military Officer of 30IB to Mr. Rey Costillas, Publice assistant officer on purchasing supplies of PHO Dinagat Island and to Dr. Aimee Lorraine Capinpuyan, the OIC of RHU Gigaquit.
In her statement, Dr. Aimee Lorraine C Capinpuyan, volunteer doctor in RHU expressed her heartful gratitude to the TOWNS and the 30IB of the Philippine Army for ensuring that said needed PPEs for their front liners have reached on to their doorsteps.
Lt Col Ryan Charles Callanta, the Commanding Officer of 30IB said “As we tirelessly work and continue to provide assistance in whatever capacity to mitigate and contain the spread of COVID-19 in the line of ensuring our medical front liners to hace their needed PPEs and equipment. And we also urge everyone to continue to cooperate with the authorities, adhere and observe the provisions and guidelines set by the government in an effort to mitigate the spread/impact of the virus.”

TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur – Another setback befelled the communist terrorists as one (1) member of the terrorist New People’s Army (NPA) was killed and three (3) high powered firearms were recovered after an armed encounter by the 26th Infantry “Ever Onward” Battalion against the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) in an inhabited and forested area of Sitio Pigdusuan, Barangay Mahagsay, San Luis, Agusan del Sur in the afternoon of May 24, 2020.
Reports from the locals of an NPA movement in the area reached the army unit thus a focused military operation was launched. Allegedly, the NPA group extorted food stuffs and cash from rice and corn farmers in the nearby barangay who have just sold their produce. A series of encounter ensued when the army troops checked the area.
Eventually, one (1) NPA was found dead, three (3) AK47 rifles, (3) magazines and ammunitions were seized. Several items were left behind by the retreating terrorists such as two (2) backpacks and subversive documents. Bloodstains were also found in the route of withdrawal, an indication that there might be severely wounded CNTs.
It can be recalled that on May 16 2020, a notorious NPA personality named @OPAW of the Guerilla Front 88, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) was neutralized during an encounter at Km16, Brgy Don Alejandro of San Luis town which this encountered CNTs similarly belongs.
Lt Col Romeo C Jimenea, 26IB commanding officer, commended the operating troops and attributed the success of the operations to the communities who really supported the Philippine Army. “It is a clear proof of the locals’ trust on us to protect them, and for that, we will continue our initiatives in order to safeguard our people,” Lt Col Jimenea expressed.
“I call on the surviving NPAs to surrender peacefully, take advantage and avail of the government’s program being offered through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). Give yourselves a chance to live a normal life with your family and friends. It is the best option, to rejoin a peaceful society. I urge the remaining NPAs to grab this opportunity,” Lt Col Jimenea ended.

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr lauded military frontline workers for their dedication and service in manning the four COVID19 mega facilities in Metro Manila.
“The AFP takes pride in our military doctors, nurses, medical aid, support and security personnel who continue to operate and stand their ground in the battle against the COVID19 pandemic. They remain dedicated to their duties, risking their own wellbeing to ensure the safety of Filipinos affected by the dreaded disease,” General Santos said.
The AFP as one of the lead agencies in combatting the COVID19 pandemic was tasked to provide manpower for clinical and operational support to Mega Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities, and swabbing center in the country. A total of 382 composite military doctors, nurses, support, medical aid and security personnel are currently deployed to the facilities in World Trade Center (WTC), Ninoy Aquino Stadium (NAS), Rizal Memorial Coliseum (RMC) and Enderun Mega Swabbing Center (EMSC).
The 502-bed WTC facility located in Pasay City is being manned by Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) composed of 87 medical personnel: 18 Medical Corps Officers, 30 Nurse Corps Officers and 39 Medical Aid Man. In addition, six Officers and seven Enlisted Personnel (EP) are tasked to man the Command and Admin Section.
The Task Group WTC CARE who leads the operation, in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Association, and external linkages with other agencies was able to conduct admission, transfer and discharge of 385 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Of which, 62 are from United Arab Emirates and 323 from Maldives.
The 112-bed NAS facility in Manila is being managed by 65 medical personnel from AFP Health Service Command. Augmenting the EMTs are six Medical Service Officers and seven EP as the Command Group.
The teams in NAS properly administered the admission of 132 COVID19 positive patients. Along this line, the facility conducted swabbing to test RT-PCR of the admitted patients and forwarded to proper medical research authorities, as well as managed radiology services to patients. Moreover, this quarantine facility has treated 108 COVID19 recovered patients.
The RMC facility in Manila which has 97 beds has a unique workforce composition. It is run by 41 emergency medical technicians comprised of four Medical Officers; three Dental Officers; 11 Nurse Corps Officers; three regular Ensign from the Philippine Navy who are professional nurses; four newly recruited EP nurses from the Philippine Army; and 16 EP serving as medical aid. It is still on its sixth day of operation and is presently catering and managing thirteen 13 COVID19 positive patients.
Meanwhile, the EMSC located in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City has a total of 54 swabbing booths that can accommodate a minimum of 900 clients in a day. The AFP deployed 50 personnel from the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force and Philippine Navy to operate the facility with complementary manpower from the BCDA, DOH, MMDA, DOLE, DPWH and National Security Council.
The facility opened on May 24 with the unique mission of arranging, collecting and transporting oral and nasopharyngeal swab specimen for COVID19 mass testing. It successfully administered the initial swabbing of 101 patients coming from the City of Taguig.

While our enemy is unseen and cannot be eliminated by anything in our armory, our greatest asset has and will always be our people. CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Two armed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) bandits died following an engagement with the troops of 33rd Infantry Battalion of Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) manning a random checkpoint at Barangay Tuka, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Troops immediately alerted after they noticed 3 suspicious men riding an XRM motorcycle at 12:10 p.m. Armed with high-powered firearms, the rebels fired at the troops after they were challenged prompting the soldiers to return fire. The armed men flee leaving their motorcycle.
Pursuing troops ran after the fleeing bandits and exchange of gunfire ensued for about 20-minutes. Troops closed-in with the enemy positions and scoured the engagement site leading to the recovery of 2 dead bodies, 2 M16 rifles, and 1 sachet of suspected drugs.
The slain BIFF rebels were identified as Asraf Kalon a.k.a Tomama and Mubin Sugadol a.k.a. Laguiadin. One of their companions managed to escape and is now subject for manhunt.
JTFC Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon commended the display of alertness and the successful pursuit operations conducted by the troops of 33rd IB.
“Let this incident serve as a warning for the terrorist that JTFC forces remain vigilant and ready to foil the terrorist’s treacherous scheme of attack against military troops manning the checkpoints.” Maj. Gen. Carreon said.
Random and intensified checkpoints are established in the different areas under JTFC where terror groups are thriving to prevent them from harassing soldiers and undermining the peace and security situation in Central Mindanao.
The cadavers of slain BIFF bandits and other recovered items were properly turned- over to Mamasapano Municipal Police for further investigation and proper disposition.

KAPAI, Lanao del Sur, May 27 (PIA) -- Two opposing clans here decided to end their strife through a peaceful resolution.
The conflict between the Elias and Mosama clans had caused fatality that brought anxiety to the people, putting Kapai town in a volatile peace and order situation in the past years hindering development in the area.
For this reason, former mayors Hamza Gauraki of Kapai and Misangcad Capal of Tagoloan II, with the assistance of the 82nd Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Rafman S. Altre, brokered the peaceful reconciliation of the two families.
Both clans surrendered two (2) M16 rifles each to the government as a goodwill offering to prove their sincerity to settle the feud.
"Napakasakit na kapwa kayo magkadugo, na pare-pareho kayong mga Maranao, pareho kayong residente ng Lanao del Sur, ngunit sa isang iglap ay naging magkaaway na nagpapatayan," he said.
[It hurts that both of you are relatives, that you are all Meranaos, residents of Lanao del Sur, but at one point you became enemies killing each other.]
"Mayroon tayong mga batas para magresolba ng mga problema. Mayroon din batas ang Islam para magresolba ng mga problema. Pwede natin itong pag-usapan. Lahat ng problema may solusyon. Manalig lamang tayo at humingi ng patnubay sa taas," he added.
[We have laws to solve problems. Islam also has laws to solve problems. We can talk about it. All problems have solutions. Let's just trust and ask for guidance from above.]
Cuerpo said that it's also high time to change the perception of the public that Kapai is not safe due to killings, drugs, rido, and other crimes.
Meanwhile, Gauraki requested the two clans to sincerely cooperate for the sake of their relatives and the community as a whole.
"Sa pagtutulungan, ating makakamtan ang katahimikan. Huwag nating hayaan na masayang ang ating sakripisyo," he said.

Representatives of the Mosama clan emphasizes that they peace-loving families who only want justice for their slain relatives.
Amira Mosama said they only want justice for their slain relatives. They hope the military, police, and local government units of Kapai and Tagoloan II can help them attain justice and closure. A peace advocate and professor of the Mindanao State University (MSU) here was killed while his wife was wounded in a shooting along the national highway on Tuesday afternoon.
Col. Aden Lagradante, city police director, said Wednesday the car being driven by Prof. Mohamad Taha Abdulgapor, with his wife Salimah as passenger, was waylaid by two persons on a motorcycle at a portion of the highway in Barangay Apopong at past 5 p.m.
Lagradante said the couple was on their way home to nearby Polomolok town, South Cotabato province when they were attacked.
A police report said the 53-year-old Mohammad, who was shot on the head, died while undergoing treatment at the Sarangani Bay Specialists Medical Center.
Salimah, 54, was hit on the arm and has been declared out of danger by attending doctors.
Mohammad was a professor of political science and Islamic Studies of MSU-General Santos Department of Islamic Studies and a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Local Monitoring Team.
Isnira Arap Baginda, college secretary of the MSU-General Santos College of Law and faculty member of the Department of Islamic Studies, confirmed in a Facebook post that Mohammad died past 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Baginda said the victim’s burial was set in Polomolok town on Wednesday “following the 24-hour limit set by Islamic Law for Muslim burial.”
Lagradante said investigators were still determining the identities of the assailants and possible motive of the attack.
He said they were also looking into several angles, one of which is an ongoing land dispute in a village here.
Police authorities were also trying to determine whether the victim had received death threats before the incident, Lagradante said.
“We have widened our investigation and considering all possible angles,” he said in an interview.
Lagradante added that they were coordinating with other law enforcement units, including the Polomolok municipal police station, to assist their investigation.

A police report said the 53-year-old Mohammad, who was shot on the head, died while undergoing treatment at the Sarangani Bay Specialists Medical Center.
Salimah, 54, was hit on the arm and has been declared out of danger by attending doctors.
Mohammad was a professor of political science and Islamic Studies of MSU-General Santos Department of Islamic Studies and a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Local Monitoring Team.
Isnira Arap Baginda, college secretary of the MSU-General Santos College of Law and faculty member of the Department of Islamic Studies, confirmed in a Facebook post that Mohammad died past 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Baginda said the victim’s burial was set in Polomolok town on Wednesday “following the 24-hour limit set by Islamic Law for Muslim burial.”
Lagradante said investigators were still determining the identities of the assailants and possible motive of the attack.
He said they were also looking into several angles, one of which is an ongoing land dispute in a village here.
Police authorities were also trying to determine whether the victim had received death threats before the incident, Lagradante said.
“We have widened our investigation and considering all possible angles,” he said in an interview.
Lagradante added that they were coordinating with other law enforcement units, including the Polomolok municipal police station, to assist their investigation.

The Philippine Army expressed appreciation to the support provided by the local government unit (LGU) of Cantilan, Surigao Sur to former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA).
Lt. Col. Jezreel Diagmel, commander of the Army's 36th Infantry Battalion (36IB), underscored Wednesday the support of Cantilan officials in strengthening the military's effort to end the local communist armed conflicts "that have been affecting the lives of residents" in Surigao del Sur.
In particular, Diagmel particularly cited the initiatives of Cantilan Mayor Carla Pichay, who spearheaded Tuesday's distribution of cash assistance to four former rebels who recently surrendered to 36IB.
"The determination and political will of our local chief executive in battling this five-decade insurgency in the province is the key to the peace and development that every peace-loving Surigaonon is longing for," Diagmel said.
The four ex-NPA fighters received PHP10,000 each from the Cantilan LGU as immediate assistance while their enrollment to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) is being processed, he said.
“I am appealing to other LGU executives in the areas of operation of 36IB to emulate the same act of courage in leading the fight against these menace in the country, the CPP-NPA terrorist (Communist Party of the Philippines),” Diagmel said.
Meanwhile, Pichay said fighting the government "is not the solution to bring progress and development in Cantilan town. Rebellion is not the solution. Rebellion is part of the problem that hinders development for our people."
She also urged the former rebels to "live in peace and continue their schooling and become responsible members of the society."

A team of military and police personnel arrested a ranking officer of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) and two of his followers in Matalam, North Cotabato Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Roberto Capulong, commander of the Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade, identified the arrested suspects as Cirilo Amit, the finance officer of NPA in North Cotabato province, and two companions, Alex Zurita and Roberto Aspura.
“They are now in the custody of the Matalam municipal police undergoing documentation and processing,” Capulong said.
Elements of the Matalam municipal police and the Army’s 90th Infantry Battalion arrested the suspects in the village of Alemodian in Matalam around 5 a.m.
Capulong thanked the local officials and residents for providing vital and accurate information to security sectors that led to the arrest of the suspects.
Government forces recovered two handguns, improvised explosives devices, and subversive documents on top of the suspects’ personal belongings.

Like other front-liners, Army, Navy, and Air Force reservists in Cebu have displayed their “bayanihan” spirit in augmenting government efforts to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
As they became home buddies when community quarantine protocols began last March, many reservists volunteered to do various tasks, such as repacking family food packs at the Department of Social Welfare and Development - Visayas Disaster Response Center (DSWD-VDRC) in Mandaue City.
Director of DSWD 7 (Central Visayas), Rebecca Geamala, commended the reservists for their “bayanihan” in helping the agency produce some 100,000 family food packs intended for the poor in six different regional locations since the start of the nationally imposed enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
In the first half of May, a total of 73,810 family food packs produced by the reservists at the DSWD-VDRC augmented the requirements in Central, Eastern, and Western Visayas and the Northern Mindanao regions, as well as in the National Resource Operations Center in Pasay City.
Young reservist Sgt. Yedda Rea Loquellano, a business promotions specialist, became jobless after the bakeshop company that she was working for closed down after Mayor Edgardo Labella signed Executive Order 64 placing the city under ECQ, which was extended until May 31.
However, she reported to her unit, the 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade stationed at the 7th Regional Community Defense Center (7RCDG) in Camp Lapu-Lapu here, where she and other female reservists waited for a vehicle that would bring them to the DSWD-VDRC to prepare family food packs, along with reservists of the Naval Reserve Center Eastern Visayas in Pier 3 and the 5th Air Force Reserve Center in Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base.
Sgt. Jean Princess Pepito was among the staff of the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Office who was forced to work from home when the ECQ was implemented by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan. However, during weekends and work breaks, Pepito joined other reservists in volunteering at the DSWD-VDRC to repack goods.
Master Sgt. Cristopher Ngosiok, a registered nurse, said, “I also like to volunteer because I like to help in a way that I can because I am a reservist and at the same time a nurse. We are here for DSWD to promote the (well-being) of our people who have nothing to eat, so we can reach for them in this way".
Ngosiok is known in the 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade as the “brother of all seasons” because he always extended help by driving home other reservists after their repacking activities at the DSWD.
Among the reservists who served at the VDRC are a human resource development officer, call center supervisors and agents, hospital staff members, convenient store operator, government employees, teachers, barangay peace officers, and mall security consultant.
“I am very thankful dun sa (for the) teamwork between the DSWD staff and the reservists. Malaking pera, na wala tayo, ang magastos ng DSWD, that’s why nanghingi tayo ng tulong sa mga partners natin (A huge amount of money, which we do not have, would have been spent by the DSWD. That is why we sought help from our partners) to produce family food packs that will help our needy constituents,” Geamala said.
She said they found it easy to tap uniformed personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) because DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista was the commanding general of the Philippine Army before he joined the Duterte administration.
Bautista is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sandiwa” Class of 1985.
Geamala said AFP personnel, such as the regular soldiers and reservists, are responsible and committed and have a sense of direction in doing their job.
“With the presence of our uniformed men, plus our secretary and undersecretary who are actually close to the upper echelon of the AFP, mas madali makipag-MOA (memorandum of agreement) sa mga grupo ninyo (it’s easy to have a MOA with your group) so that we can realize our dream of faster service,” she said.
Derick Triumfo, a DSWD-VDRC coordinator for volunteers, praised the work attitude of the AFP volunteers.
“They are very passionate and dedicated to help. The AFP has always been a partner to the DSWD in the uplifting of the poor and vulnerable. Their compassion has been a huge factor in the disaster relief augmentation of the department, as well as the Visayas Disaster Resource Center,” Triumfo told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
According to him, the DSWD-VDRC was able to mobilize 1,799 uniformed volunteers from both the reservists and regulars of the AFP, as well as the Philippine Coast Guard.
Regular officers and enlisted men of the Central Command, 53rd Engineering Brigade, Naval Fleet in Cebu City, and air force squadrons from Mactan airbase also helped repack goods.
At the VDRC facility, Triumfo briefs volunteers and reminds them to wash their hands, undergo temperature checks, and disinfect their boots or shoes.
Col. Ricky Bunayog, chief of the 7RCDG, Army Reserve Command said the deployment of the reservists to the VDRC has a letter order.
“Our reservists are trained for disaster preparedness and being protectors of our vital structures. They also feel that they could contribute to the overall development and well-being of the Filipinos and how they can contribute to the improvement of the Philippine society,” Bunayog said of the “bayanihan” spirit shown by the reservists during the ECQ.

National Security Adviser and National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict vice-chair Hermogenes Esperon, Jr. on Wednesday said the Supreme Court (SC) show cause order against militant group leaders and members is a milestone against the ongoing campaign against communist terrorists.
The show cause order issued on May 19 came after the May 8 filing of petitions requesting the SC to issue writs of Habeas Corpus and Amparo by couple Francis and Relissa Lucena against respondents Kabataan party-list Representative Sarah Elago, Anakbayan Spokesperson Alex Danday, Anakbayan recruiters and members Chary Delos Reyes, Bianca Gacos, and Jayroven Ballais Villafuerte, and lawyer Maria Kristina Conti.
The SC En Banc has required the respondents to justify within 10 calendar days from the issuance of the order on why the writs of Amparo and Habeas Corpus should not be issued against them.
These petitions are in connection with the Lucenas' search for their daughter, Alice Jasper (AJ), who was reportedly indoctrinated and subsequently recruited by the New People’s Army (NPA).
AJ had been missing since July 2019 and now under the restrictive custody of the respondents.
"This legal action is a milestone in the fight against the communist terrorist group (CTG). It reaffirms our unanimity towards our cause to rid our country of this fifty-year-old menace to society," said Esperon, who is also Director-General of the National Security Council.
The Lucenas were aided in the filing of their petition by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.
"We recall that in August last year, Mrs. Lucena, along with other mothers, testified at a Senate hearing and investigation on the ongoing NPA youth recruitment in schools where their missing children had been attending," Esperon added in a statement.
He said the petition for a writ of Habeas Corpus filed by Mrs. Lucena is a request for the SC to issue a writ directing the respondents to produce her daughter before the court.
While the petition for writ of Amparo is a legal remedy for Mrs. Lucena for the protection of the constitutional guarantees of her daughter, whose rights to life, liberty, and security have been violated by her leftist recruiters through their exploitation, indoctrination, and abduction of the victim.
He added that the SC show cause order reinforces the country’s efforts in protecting the constitutional rights of children in armed conflict which the Philippines enforces as a responsible party to international law.
"We welcome this development, and we support Mr. and Mrs. Lucena, and other parents similarly situated, in their efforts to bring their children back into the care and comfort of their families," Esperon added.
Since the country's youth are the hope for the future, he said the government is only doing its job in protecting the well-being of these minors.
"As a champion of the country’s national interests, we are beholden to the well-being and security of our nation’s future- the youth. No less than our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, has been quoted as saying that 'the youth is the hope of our future'," he said, calling on youths victimized by the NPA to reconsider their stand and return to the folds of the law.
Empty promises
"Your recruiters have peddled nothing but deceptions and empty promises in order to manipulate your young minds for political gain," he added.
He said communists have repeatedly violated international law through the recruitment of child warriors, the abuse of indigenous peoples, and the use of landmines.
The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
"They try to envisage themselves as 'socially progressive' groups but their lies and various atrocities have exposed their true cause," he said.
Esperon said they acknowledged the efforts of the parents of the missing children whose dedication in preventing such things from happening to other parents is highlighted by their dedication in exposing the NPA youth recruitment agenda being implemented in schools.
"As we stand abreast by these parents and their advocacy to educate the youth on this exploitation, we remain committed to ensuring that in the future, no family shall ever be broken by similar circumstances," he added.

Since the country's youth are the hope for the future, he said the government is only doing its job in protecting the well-being of these minors.
"As a champion of the country’s national interests, we are beholden to the well-being and security of our nation’s future- the youth. No less than our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, has been quoted as saying that 'the youth is the hope of our future'," he said, calling on youths victimized by the NPA to reconsider their stand and return to the folds of the law.
Empty promises
"Your recruiters have peddled nothing but deceptions and empty promises in order to manipulate your young minds for political gain," he added.
He said communists have repeatedly violated international law through the recruitment of child warriors, the abuse of indigenous peoples, and the use of landmines.
The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
"They try to envisage themselves as 'socially progressive' groups but their lies and various atrocities have exposed their true cause," he said.
Esperon said they acknowledged the efforts of the parents of the missing children whose dedication in preventing such things from happening to other parents is highlighted by their dedication in exposing the NPA youth recruitment agenda being implemented in schools.
"As we stand abreast by these parents and their advocacy to educate the youth on this exploitation, we remain committed to ensuring that in the future, no family shall ever be broken by similar circumstances," he added.

For President Rodrigo Duterte, the country’s military forces do not work “for money” but soldiers that serve because of their “love of country.”
In a meeting with officers of the Philippine Army (PA) and Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday night, Duterte congratulated the troops for their successful operation against the New People’s Army (NPA).
“I’m not paying you. I know that you are not mercenaries. You do not do it for money. You do it out of passion for the love of country because we are all Filipinos,” he said in his speech at the Malago clubhouse inside Malacañang Park.
Duterte’s expression of gratitude came after government troops successfully conducted military operations in Northern Luzon and Mindanao.
He ordered the military and the police to neutralize the insurgents because of their continuous attacks on government forces amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
Communist rebels have been launching regular attacks against the members of the military escorting social workers handing over cash grants and food packs to poor families in remote areas.
In his remarks on May 12, Duterte ordered the military to eliminate the communist insurgents if the rebels placed their lives in danger.
He also offered a PHP2-million reward to anyone who could provide information for the capture and neutralization of top NPA commanders.
Meanwhile, Duterte also recalled how he cultivated a bond with the military when he was Davao City mayor and facilitated the release of some soldiers and policemen captured by the rebels.
“I’m not trying to really pull my own chair but for all ‘yung naka --- nung mga sundalo pati pulis na nabihag ng --- except si ‘yung general --- lahat ‘yan ako ang kumukuha pati si Bong (Senator Go). Kaya bilib ako. Saludo ako kung ginawa ninyo (when soldiers and police were captured – except a general, I rescued them, I was with Bong. That’s why I salute you for what you’ve been doing),” he said.
On May 4, Duterte said there is no hope for peace talks, rejecting anew the idea of a possible resumption of peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines’ (CPP) political wing, the National Democratic Front (NDF).
Duterte did not elaborate in his speech, but in several instances slammed communist rebels for reneging on their commitment to observe a unilateral ceasefire amid Covid-19 pandemic.
He also cautioned government forces from trusting the word of communist insurgents.
The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The Philippines and Vietnam reaffirmed the shared commitment to pursue peace, security, and stability in the South China Sea (SCS).
In a telephone conversation Tuesday evening, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized the key roles played by both countries in promoting security and stability in the SCS.
Duterte and Phuc reiterated their commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes in the South China Sea.
Citing the Philippines as an important member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), Phuc said the Philippines has “played well the role of Country Coordinator of Asean-China relations.”
Noting Vietnam’s chairmanship of Asean, Duterte said the Philippines is “ready to support the endeavors of Asean.”
As Country Coordinator for Asean-China Dialogue, the Philippines is actively pushing for the conclusion of a binding, effective, and substantive Code of Conduct in the South China Sea at the soonest possible time.
The Philippines and Vietnam elevated their bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership in 2015. The two sides committed to enhance cooperation in a wide of areas -- political, economic, socio-cultural, and defense and security cooperation, including in the area of maritime security. (OPAFA-PCOO)
