Eleven members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), including a sub-leader, chose to return to the fold of the law and surrender their firearms to the military in Basilan.
Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosarrio, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) said, “Abdullah Indanan, a.k.a. Guro, a sub-leader, and 10 more ASG members submitted themselves to Joint Task Force Basilan, Commander Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway in Barangay Serongon, Hadji Mohammad Ajul at noon Tuesday, March 29.”
According to Brig. Gen. Gobway, the surrender came four days after the neutralization of ASG leader Radzmil Jannatul, a.k.a. Khubayb. “The surrender was facilitated by our troops in collaboration with Hadji Samad of the MILF CCCH-GPH and other MILF commanders and personalities.
Turned over by the former ASG members were 11 high-powered firearms including six M16 rifles, one M1 Carbine, two M16A1 rifles, one M16 rifle with M203 attached, and one M4 rifle.
It can be recalled that ASG leader Radzmil Jannatul was killed during a 15-minute firefight at Sitio Center, Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip, Basilan on March 25, 2022. His dead body was recovered at the encounter site and was positively identified by the operatives.
Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. commended the troops for these successes and attributed them to the unwavering support of the local government units, partners, and stakeholders of the military in Basilan.
