Five members of the communist terrorist group returned to the fold of law in the morning of July 13.

Billy Tayan, Bobby Tayan, Iga Tayan, Untong Tayan, and Waning Tayan submitted themselves to the troops of the 7th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Kamanga, Barangay Laguilayan, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

The five handed over one Garand Rifle with magazine and ammunition, one M16 with magazine, one Cal. 30 Carbine with magazine and ammunition, one Cal. 30 Springfield US Rifle with ammunition, and one M79 40mm Grenade Launcher.

“We appreciate their gesture of embracing peace through their voluntary surrender and handing over of firearms to the government forces,” said Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, JTF Central Commander.

Subject personalities and turned over firearms were temporarily placed under the custody of 7IB for debriefing and proper documentation.

“The Western Mindanao Command, through its Joint Task Forces, continue to fulfil its mandate of assisting returnees in their reintegration to the mainstream society. While we intensify our operations in critical areas, we remain steadfast and committed in bringing about stability in our area of operation,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, the Commander of WestMinCom.

A local terrorist group sub-leader submitted himself to the military at 9:30 a.m., July 14, 2020.

Abdullah Lumzed Arumpac, a.k.a. Afghan, also yielded his Caliber 5.56mm AR15 M16A1 Rifle with one short magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition at the 103rd Brigade headquarters in Kampo Ranao, Marawi City.

“Arumpac was involved in the encounter at Sandab, Butig in 2015 and in Ragayan, Poona Bayabao where he suffered gunshot wound at his lower abdomen while three of his members died,” said Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103Bde Commander.

Said personality decided to lie low after the encounter at Poona Bayabao.

“We are happy that Afghan finally made up his mind and expressed his intent to join the government and the peace-loving Filipinos in sustaining the peace in Mindanao without the use of arms,” said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, JTF ZamPeLan Commander.

Subject is currently undergoing custodial at H103Bde.

“We attribute this accomplishment not only to our dedicated soldiers but to our partners and the people of Mindanao as well,” said WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.

“This is a manifestation of the solidarity among the AFP and a strong multi-sector collaboration as we have achieved more with the involvement of the local government, our stakeholders, and the communities,” the living hero added.

Amid the continuous conduct of focused military operation and operation other than war, thirteen local terrorist group members returned to the fold of law in Maguindanao on July 13, 2020.

The thirteen decided to withdraw membership from the LTG after a series of civil military operations conducted by the troops of the 33rd Infantry Battalion and with the support of the civilians in the municipalities of Sultan Sa Barongis, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, and Rajah Buayan in Maguindanao.

Anwar Lagasan, Baumol Manalasal, Masmo Manalasal, Abusama Manalasalm Rahib Mangansakan, Ali Saludin Mugawan, Humidi Abdulkadir, Hamdan Dia Kadir, Nasrudin Mantawil, Naem Usman, Mohammad Suhod, Omar Sampulna, and Samsudin Pasawilan handed over one homemade Sniper Rifle, 7.62mm Barrett, two homemade M79 Grenade Launchers, two homemade 7.62mm M14 Rifle, one homemade Rocket-Propelled Grenade, two improvised Sniper Rifles Cal .50 Barrett, two improvised RPG, one Caliber 45 Thompson, three RPG ammunition, and three bottles of Black Powder as a gesture of their sincere intent to be reintegrated to the mainstream society.

Said personalities and handed over firearms were subsequently presented to 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Jesus Rico D. Atencio in a simple ceremony held at the 33IB headquarters in Barangay Zapakan, Rajah Buayan at 10am, July 14.

“We are very grateful of the support we get from the local government, local leaders, our stakeholders, and the community,” said Col. Atencio.

Present during the activity were Rajah Buayan Mayor Yacob Ampatuan, Shariff Aguak Mayor Marop Ampatuan, Sultan Sa Barongis Mayor Mamanto Mamantal, and other local leaders.

JTF Central Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon lauded the troops for their dedication and hard work that yield significant gains and mission accomplishment.

“Amid the challenges the whole nation is facing right now, the armed forces remain calm and steadfast. We have established our strong interagency collaboration and through this, we will win all battles,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Force Commander, WestMinCom.

“All together, we will continue our journey towards the attainment of peace and solidarity while we decontaminate our communities from the odds and ends of the invisible enemy,” the commander added.
