Camp General Manuel T Yan Sr – A high ranking NPA terrorist and his wife who were members of communist movement were killed in an encounter on April 26, 2021 at Barangay Sta. Maria, Trento, Agusan del Sur.

The 67th Infantry “AGILA” Battalion (67IB) conducted pursuit and clearing operations after a member of the community of Sta. Maria revealed the continuous presence of New People’s Army in the area.

After responding to the report, a 5-minute firefight ensued that lead to the deaths of Danny Huit, Alias Bosyong, Secretary of Guerilla Front North of Sub-Regional Command 1, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee and Naneth G. Catalino Alias Bambam/Keith, member of the said group. According to the records, Danny Huit has five pending warrants of arrest for one count of frustrated murder, one count of homicide, two counts of arson and one count rebellion before Regional Trial Court Branches 7, 32 and 3 respectively.

Lt. Col. Louie G. Dema-ala, Battalion Commander 67IB said “The timely and immediate report of the civilians about the presence of Communist Terrorists presence in the area is the biggest factor of this successful neutralization of the rebels. We are encouraging the rebels to abandon the twisted and violent ideology, and peacefully surrender to avail the programs of the government.

Col. Oliver C Maquiling, Commander 701st Brigade lauded the relentless efforts of 67IB troops to secure the communities by running after the communist terrorist in Barangay Sta. Maria.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen. Ernesto C Torres Jr commended the troops and the leadership of 701st Brigade with its units for the prompt action in maintaining peace and order in the area. He also added that the government is much willing to provide opportunity to former rebels who chose to surrender and have a better life than reigning terror.
