DWDD: STATEMENT I LFS-Northern Mindanao, Spreading Propaganda

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Mar 12): STATEMENT  /  LFS-Northern Mindanao, Spreading Propaganda

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental (DWDD) The League of Filipino Students-Northern Mindanao Region (LFS-NMR) over-reacted on the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division’s statement of encouraging school teachers to look-out for recruitment of students in the Universities and schools in Northern Mindanao.

According to 4ID spokesperson 1Lt Tere Ingente, the recruitment of minors are alarming especially in the area of Northern Mindanao and Caraga Regions.

Recruitments of minors in schools and universities are also being looked into. That is why, school administrators and principals should open their eyes on the possible recruitment of Communist Party of the Philippines – New Peoples’ Army (CPP-NPA) in schools and universities.

“LFS-Northern Mindanao chairperson Kristine Cabardo is over-reacting! The military has NOT made any move to gain access to universities in Northern Mindanao and Caraga Regions. But there were times I can recall, that the school administrators and principals are the ones inviting the military in “Brigada Eskwela” and School Symposiums. Sa gisulti sa LFS nga fake news lang ang dala sa atong mga kasundalohan, ang labawng tinood sila sa LFS ang ga-brainwash ug nag-silsil sa alimpatakan sa mga estudyante sa impormasyon ug pakyas na ideolohiya sa CPP-NPA sa kabataan. (In the statement of the LFS of supposed “awareness raising” in school invitation is fake news, the truth is that the LFS are the ones, brainwashing and instilling failed ideology of the CPP-NPA to the youths.)” Josh Bebis, President of Youth for Peace PONITY Northern Mindanao-Caraga.

The Department of Education has declared that Schools are Zones for Peace in DepEd Order No. 44, Series 2005 since August 2005 that fact that 4ID soldiers cannot gain access to schools in its area of responsibility.

“I encourage school administrators, principals and even parents to be vigilant in monitoring the recruitment and radicalization, the spousing of hatred and violence by terrorist leaning youth organizations on peace loving students. There were many cases of recruitment and radicalization of youths that started in universities and schools. You would not want to know that your student or child was found in the mountains captured, carrying firearms and explosives or worst see them die in an encounter with the operating troops, right?” Maj General Ronald Villanueva, Commander of 4th Infantry Division said.

LFS-NMR said that there is nothing wrong with standing for their rights, with youth immersing with lumads and the farmers, with fighting. They have seen injustice so we stand and fight. “There is no problem of bringing issues to the streets, fighting and shouting for the rights being violated and whatever advocacy they have. YES there is nothing wrong in going to communities and immersing or volunteering or even extending hands to help those in need. This is a democratic country. But we definitely have a problem if the LFS’ meaning of fighting is arousing, organizing and mobilizing students to be radical then later carry high caliber firearms, ammunition and explosives during their exposure in the hinterlands and joining the terrorist New Peoples’ Army!” Villanueva added. 4DPAO / MCAG
