They’re frat men, not NPAs – Bataan mayor

From the Manila Bulletin (Mar 10): They’re frat men, not NPAs – Bataan mayor

Camp Tolentino, Bataan — The group of around 100 men earlier sighted in Orion town are not rebels out to reactivate New People’s Army (NPA) operations as cited by a National Intelligence and Coordinating Agency (NICA) official, but fraternity brothers of the Tau Gamma Phi.

Mayor Virgilio Isidro of Orion said that the group was not that of rebels but members of the Tau Gamma. “I reside there so I know what happened,” he said.

A police official also gave the same information about the gathering held in Barangay Bantan Malaki the other week. “I was personally there, monitoring their activities. So, I got a personal information about them,” said Chief Inspector Reyson Bagain, provincial chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

It was retired general Rolando Asuncion, director of NICA, who reported in the recent Peace and Order Council meeting in Bataan that there was allegedly a two-day gathering of active and inactive members of the NPA in a bid to reactivate alleged communist-terrorist groups (CTGs).
