Isabela City, Basilan. November 10, 2017. An encounter between the 68th Philippine Army and the BIAF-MILF Forces in Barangay Upper Cabengbeng Sumisip Basilan that started on November 10 is still raging until this day despite the presence of LMT, CCCH-MILF and the Western Mindanao-based International Monitoring Team (IMT).
The first encounter on November 8 started at about 7AM near the house of Arhan Asnawie, a BIAF member that resulted to the killing of six army soldiers and Bawo A. Abujah, a BIAF-MILF member.
According to a civilian who requested that his name be withheld, members of the Philippine Army were pursuing elements of the Abu Sayaaf Group (ASG) in an area of temporary station (ATS) for MILF Forces in Sumisip town. The presence of the MILF in the area is well known to the military and is of public knowledge. During the first encounter on November 8, the Local Monitoring Team of the (LMT)-MILF kept in touched with the Philippines Army representative in Tabiawan Brigade Headquarters, Isabela City, Basilan.
With the strong intercession by the IMT and the CCCH, the BIAF members agreed to reposition, thereby ending the bloody clashes. The BIAF members were allowed to pass through the highway with their firearms with an agreement that while they are passing Military Checkpoints, army soldiers should not hold their firearms.
Meanwhile, national and local online publications reported the rescue by the military of three (3) Vietnamese kidnapped by the notorious ASG just time for the holding of APEC meeting in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The Vietnamese Government were so glad to learn of their rescue and thanked the Philippine Government.
