FIVE New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered to government authorities in the province of South Cotabato, the police reported Friday, April 28, 2023.
The Area Police Command-Western Mindanao (APC-WM) identified the NPA surrenderers as Toto Gulae Dawang alias Toto Gamay, 28; Lumisi Dialang Tayon, 35; Nida Dialang Freay, 23; Diego Dialang Malid, 25; and Rodin Kawayan Galo, 27.
The APC-WM said they surrendered around 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the headquarters of the South Cotabato 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd SCPMFC) in Central village, Surallah.
Prior to the surrender, the police received an information on Monday, April 24, from Jomad Dialang, who surrendered on July 21, 2022 that there are other NPA members under the Guerrilla Front (GF) ALIP who are planning to return to the fold of the law and avail government program under National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac).
The intelligence operatives of 2nd SCPMFC and other police units under the direct supervision of Police Colonel Cydric Earl Tamayo, South Cotabato Police Provincial Office acting provincial director, conducted intelligence case build-up utilizing confidential informants and were able to establish contact with the subject NPA personalities.
Following a series of negotiations, the five NPA members were convinced to surrender and were placed under the custody of the 2nd SCPMFC for custodial debriefing and subsequent enrolment to the Enhanced Comprehensive Livelihood Integration Program (E-Clip) of the government. (SunStar Zamboanga)
