BALER, Aurora – Nine members of the Communist Front Organization (CFO) have withdrawn their support for the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People’s Army - National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
The nine surrenderers took their oath of allegiance to the government before Lt. Col. Reandrew P. Rubio, acting commander of the 91st Infantry "Sinagtala" Battalion (91IB) in Barangay Diaat, Maria Aurora town in this province on Wednesday.
They admitted that they were victims of deception of the terrorist group and vowed to support the programs and initiatives of the government for peace and development under President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order (EO) 70 or the “whole-of-nation approach" in ending local communist armed conflict.
Rubio said the surrenderers were undergoing tactical interviews by the intelligence operatives of the barangay.
“Ngayon ang saktong panahon upang sumuko. Maraming magagandang programa ang gobyerno para makapagsimula muli ang mga dating rebelde. Asahan ninyo ang pagtulong ng Agila Brigade habang tinatahak ninyo ang panibagong yugto ng inyong kasaysayan (Now is the right time to surrender. The government has good programs for former rebels to start new lives. Rest assured that the Agila Bridge will help you as you go through another chapter of your history),” Col. Andrew D. Costelo, commander of the 703rd Infantry “Agila” Brigade, said in a statement.
Brig. Gen. Alfredo V. Rosario Jr., commander of the 7th Infantry “Kaugnay” Division said EO 70 provides various reasons for the rebels to return to the fold of the law.
“May those still under the false promises of the CPP-NPA-NDF realize their real purpose of existence. We live not only for ourselves but for our fellowmen. May they find in their hearts the sincerity of the government to serve and protect them. The Kaugnay troopers are always ready to lend a hand,” Rosario said.
The 91IB also facilitated the surrender of 15 former members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla Sierra Madre, also in Barangay Diaat, Maria Aurora, last April 22.
