ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has facilitated the transport of medical supplies as well as stranded soldiers and civilians, including foreigners, from and to this city amid the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis.
Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said Thursday the medical supplies, cargoes, and stranded personnel arrived Wednesday at Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB) here aboard the C-295, a medium transport plane of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Sobejana said the air transport was initiated by the Tactical Operations Wing-Western Mindanao in coordination with the Department of National Defense (DND).
Sobejana said the plane ferried to this city 27 people consisting of 26 soldiers and a physician, who were stranded in Manila.
Maj. Arvin John Encinas, Westmincom spokesperson, said the stranded foreigners included Americans, French, Canadians, Germans, Arabs, Koreans, and Taiwanese.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines continually provides transportation assistance amid the crisis brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019,” Sobejana said.
“We hope and pray that this health crisis will be over soon,” he added.
