DAVAO ORIENTAL, April 28 (PIA) - Attacks of communist terrorist group New People’s Army (NPA) are add-on burden during COVID-19 crisis.
Provincial Governor Nelson Dayanghirang aired this view against atrocities of NPA armed rebels in an interview of Communications Secretary Martin Andanar during the #LagingHanda Network Briefing this morning.
As chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), Dayanghirang revealed that there had been four armed encounters with NPAs at the height of COVID-19 crisis, and three of such incidents, happened during the declared ceasefire period.
“I am happy and thankful that our President (Rodrigo R. Duterte) declared that there will be no more ceasefire because in reality, NPAs do not stick to the agreement,” he said.
In a separate interview with the media, Dayanghirang was reported having revealed that ending negotiations with the communist NPA has been the stand of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC)”.
He viewed the attacks as “additional burden to the people” as he noted that affected residents left their areas due to fear of getting caught in the crossfire.
One of those incidents was on April 11 when an NPA terrorist group conducted a reportedly “violent attack” by staging an open fire against elements of 67th Infantry Battalion while conducting security patrol at Barangay Mahan-ub in Baganga
The military troops responded to complaints of residents who reported being forced to the rebel armed group to hand in the relief goods provided by the government. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)
