CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Police in Maguindanao said on Thursday the son and brother of extremist leader Abu Toraife were among those killed during the ongoing military law enforcement operations in Maguindanao.

Maj. Reggie Abellera, chief of police of Shariff Saydona Mustapha, said
two of the three Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) slain in the surgical operations of Army’s 6th Infantry Division were close relatives of Toraife, leader of the most radical BIFF faction.

Toraife’s group earlier pledged allegiance to the flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

Among the BIFF fatalities were Ansari Esmael, Toraife’s son; Akhmad Abdulmalik, Toraife’s younger brother; and a certain Johari Abdulatip.

“The village officials of Barangay Pusao, Shariff Saydona, positively identified the fatalities,” Abellera said.

Only recently, the town’s peace and order council, headed by Shariff Saydona Mustapha Mayor Sajid Ampatuan, passed a resolution declaring the BIFF as “persona non grata”.

Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander and concurrent chief of Joint Task Force Central, said military operations in the province will continue until the BIFF is totally eradicated.
