CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Government troops have discovered and disarmed an improvised explosive device (IED) yesterday afternoon, November 26, 2019, at Barangay Lower Tambuan II, Guindulungan, Maguindanao.

The device found was wrapped in a yellow sack placed inside a dilapidated box. It was found at around 2:30 p.m. when a concerned civilian reported to the 90th Infantry Battalion a suspicious item left at a roadside of Barangay Tambunan II.

Troops responded where the suspected IED was located and immediately cordoned the area following a thorough search to ensure the safety of the civilians and the commuters passing by while the Municipal Police of Guindulungan controlled the traffic flow.

The Army’s 3rd Explosive and Ordnance Disposal Team successfully detonated the suspected IED. It was discovered that the IED was made of 81mm mortar attached to a cellphone as triggering device and a cartridge 40mm high explosive ammunition.

The Commanding Officer of 90th Infantry Battalion, Lt. Col. Michael Maquilan, said that the emplacing of IED in 90IB AO is a diversionary tactic of the BIFF and DITG who are subjects of the on-going military operation on the Joint Task Force Central (JTFC).

JTFC Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon lauded the civilian communities for their cooperation in the fight of the government against terror groups conducting atrocities that prevented bombing attempts in the Maguindanao. The IEDs were taken at the custody of 3rd EOD team for proper disposition.
