The 14th Infantry (Avenger) Battalion (14th IB) of the Philippine Army (PA) celebrated its 46th founding anniversary on June 15, held at the Headquarters of the 14th IB, PA at Brgy. Dao, Oras, Eastern Samar.
The celebration was anchored on the theme: "46 Anyos nga Pagproteher ha mga Tawo ngan Pagserbe ha mga Estehanon". (46 years of protecting and serving Eastern Samarenos)
In his welcome remarks, Lt. Col. Jasper Justito M. Pecson, commanding officer of 14th IB, said the 14th IB affirmed the gallantry and bravery of the Avengers way back in 1973 when it was first reactivated.
Lt. Col Pecson added that for the 46 years of existence of this unit, the Avengers had a series of training and had hurdled vast challenges to include campaigns against insurgency, disaster and other related incidents detrimental to the country's goal in achieving utmost peace and sustainable development.
"Our military will continue to uphold the unit's core values and tradition of honor and excellence with compassionate service to the Estehanons," Pecson further said.
The celebration was highlighted with the awarding of medals to the Outstanding Personnel for their excellent performance and various achievements in combat and non-combat activities which contributed to the support of Philippine Army's mandate to end the insurgency.
The14th IB also recognized the different stakeholders by giving out plaques for their support like Radyo Pilipinas, national government agencies, their host barangay, and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
"The support of the stakeholders is instrumental to the accomplishments of the unit's mission in the promotion of peace and development, nation-building, law enforcement, and security operations," said Pecson.
Other activities were a mass wedding, sportsfest, and the Avenger's night.
Brigadier General Alex DC Luna, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), 801st Brigade commander who served as the keynote speaker, applauded the battalion as their theme was reflective of their quest to have a final and enduring peace.
The Commander added that the Avengers had countless encounters with the insurgents in Mindanao, Central Luzon and presently in Eastern Samar.
" Your enduring trials has molded you to be highly professional and capable soldiers that contributed to the present stature of the unit."
"14th IB is a trusted and a dependable partner for peace and progress in this part of Samar Island. For the years to come, I challenge you to set your goals higher in our mandate of securing our people and joining our constituents in creating a just and lasting peace in Eastern Visyas," the general said.
The 14th IB has the whole of Eastern Samar and some part of Samar province as their area of operation.
