TUGUEGARAO CITY: Hoping to further rekindle the camaraderie with Filipinos, the soldiers of the United States of America resumed their "quick parachute diving" off the island province of Batanes on Tuesday.
The soldiers earlier arrived via a United States-owned Osprey helicopter which landed at Basco Airport in Basco, Batanes on Monday afternoon, April 10.
Batanes Gov. Marilou Cayco, however, clarified in a statement that the soldiers arrived for a "quick parachute diving practice within the island-province area" and not for anything else.
The practice is a part of the ongoing Balikatan Exercises between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States of America that are initiated annually by the two countries.
"We would like to clarify that these have nothing to do with the ongoing tension between China and Taiwan," she said. "Let's not spread any false information that gives fear to our countrymen," the governor added.
