From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 11, 2023): NPA rebels gun down civilian in NegOr for 'military links' (By Mary Judaline Partlow)
DUMAGUETE CITY – Suspected members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) on Tuesday morning shot dead a civilian in a remote mountainous area in Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental province, the local police reported.
The victim was identified as Armando Duran Babor, 33, married, a carpenter and a resident of Sitio Mag-ubay in Barangay Maniak, Guihulngan City.
An initial report from the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) said that the victim was having breakfast with his wife, Archel Caballero Babor, at her residence when three armed men arrived and shot him three times on the head and on his left arm, resulting in his instant death.
The armed men fled toward the mountainous part of Barangay Calupaan in Guihulngan.
Police recovered three 5.56 mm shells.
Guihulngan police chief, Lt. Col. Romeo Cubo, told the Philippine News Agency in an interview that they were looking as possible motive the victim’s alleged previous connections with the NPA, and his turning against them.
