The National Task Force for the Disbandment of Private Armed Groups (NTF-DPAGs) held a press conference in General Santos City on Friday afternoon, October 29, 2021. This was done purposely to report the recent milestones of the task force.
In attendance were Secretary Eduardo Año, Chairperson of the NTF-DPAGs; Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., Special Adviser of the task force; Assistant Secretary Angelito De Leon, Vice-Chairperson; Police General Guillermo Eleazar, Chief of the Philippine National Police; General Jose Faustino, Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; Police Lieutenant General Jose Chiquito Malayo, Task Force Commander, Western Mindanao; Police Lieutenant General Manuel Abu, Task Force Commander, Eastern Mindanao; Major General Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command; and Lieutenant General Greg Almerol, Commander, Eastern Mindanao Command.
PLt. Gen. Malayo presented the task force’s accomplishments. “We have disbanded a total of 32 PAGs since the activation of the task force,” he said.
The disbandment of private armed groups is one of the efforts under the Comprehensive Agreement in the Bangsamoro (CAB) that was signed by the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in 2014.
“The PNP and the AFP are giving their best efforts in performing their mandates. Rest assured that they implement what they should. We are fully prepared to address these things,” Sec. Año stated.
The NTF-DPAGs Chairperson further stated that a holistic approach is vital in running after the PAGs. “Feedbacks from the community, involvement of the LGUs, and support from the media are of much importance,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Rosario, Jr. expressed his full support for this peace effort. “The Western Mindanao Command supports our government’s resolve to disband the private armed groups to sustain the peace in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and its adjacent regions,” he said.
The press conference was held at KCC Convention and Event Center, General Santos City.
