FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army Commanding General lauded the 85th Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division’s operation against CPP-NPA-Terrorists (CNTs) on Tuesday, April 01, 2020 at Sitio Acaciahan, Barangay Ilayang Yuni, Mulanay, Quezon.
While conducting information dissemination on COVID-19 in the area, said troops received a report from the community on the presence of the armed CNT members involved in extortion activities.
An hour after responding to the report, the 85th IB troops encountered 20 CNT elements which resulted in the death of one NPA member and the recovery of one M16 rifle and one cal. 45 pistol.
This is the third atrocity that the CNTs have committed since the declaration of ceasefire on March 26. Taking advantage of the current medical emergency to conduct armed struggle against our people.
“Congratulations to the troops of the 85th Infantry Battalion of fulfilling their duty of protecting the people from the CNTs’ atrocities. Remain alert and vigilant for at this time we are combating two enemies – the COVID-19 and terrorists that challenge the security of the people.”said Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay.
