Reports of AFP combat operations against the New People’s Army in the Davao regions filtered through radio reports and social media yesterday, April 1, indicating that the unilateral ceasefire declared by its chief commander-in-chief is being blatantly disregarded in his own bailiwick.
Callers of the station Radyo ni Juan reported continued military operations in Paquibato District of Davao City and in the towns of Pantukan and Mabini in Davao de Oro.
In Paquibato, soldiers from the 16th IB arrived and set up camp in Sitio Manipis on March 30.
In Mabini, 71st IB soldiers continued to scour the barangays of Pangibiran, Cabuyuan and Libodon. Around two weeks earlier, AFP forces bombed the area , forcing around 50 families to flee.
Last week, reports circulated in social media claiming that Sara Duterte, Davao City mayor and head of the Regional Peace and Order Council, openly “ordered” AFP troops and PNP personnel across the Davao regions to disregard the ceasefire declared by President Duterte.
