Jolo-based district engineer Enrico Nee was released on Monday in Patikul, Sulu more than four months after he was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf Group.

The release of another Abu Sayyaf kidnap victim came only two days after the terrorist group freed P02 Benierose Alvarez and PO 1 Dinah Gumahad, who were abducted on April 29.

A press release issued by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) on Monday said that the armed men took at gunpoint Nee, a district engineer of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), last February 14 near his house in Barangay Kasalamatan, Jolo while he was waiting for his ride.

OPAPP said that Nee was reunited with his family on Monday after Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza turned him over to them in Zamboanga City.

The chief peace adviser said they are doing their best to release all the kidnap victims upon instructions of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, noting that the Abu Sayyaf still holds a number of captives, including foreigners, in Sulu.

Dureza added that the victim’s release was the result of the collective efforts of government security forces, the local government unit of Sulu, private volunteers, and the anti-kidnapping groups of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

According to Joint Task Force Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, residents found the victim around 8 a.m. in Patikul after he was left by his captors.

“His presence in Barangay Latih caught the attention of the civilians, who were prompted to report the matter to the district engineer of DPWH District 1 who immediately dispatched vehicles to pick him up,” Dureza said.

Last Saturday, the two policewomen were turned over in Davao City to President Duterte, who said he asked MNLF founding chair Nur Misuari to pick up the rescued victims along with Dureza.

OPAPP said Alvarez and Gumahad, along with other two civilians, were taken by armed men in Patikul. It said they had come from Camp Teodulfo Bautista near the Jolo Airport when their tricycle was waylaid by armed men.
