Tago, Surigao del Sur – the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion, Philippine Army in closed collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Surigao del Sur holds poverty reduction, livelihood and employment cluster dialogue to the Former Rebels and the locals held at Sitio Ibuan, Brgy Mampi, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur yesterday, June 6, 2019 at 9 o’clock in the morning.

An estimated total of 150 participants from Sitio Ibuan, Brgy Mampi including the former rebels, local officials, tribal leaders, teachers and CAFGU’s who attended and actively participated to raise their concerns to the right agencies.

The said activity aims to capacitate and elevate the knowledge of information of the former rebels and the locals on the different programs of the different line agencies of the government and to alleviate poverty thru introducing livelihood and sustainable projects and programs that will suit to the needs of the locals.

The event is line with the operationalization of President Rodrigo Duterte’s EO 70 that institutionalizes a “whole-of-nation approach and creating a task force in ending local communist armed conflict and to address the root causes of insurgency through focused, coordinated and sustained delivery of basic services and social development packages by the government in poor, conflict-affected and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).

The activity was spearheaded by Mr Rey M Cueva, PD, Tesda SDS, as the chairman of the cluster and LTC Xerxes A Trinidad, CO, 36IB with different line agencies representatives from Provincial Police Office (PPO) SDS, DAR, DOLE, PCA, DILG, NCIP, DA and DSWD-SDS.

In his statement, LTC Xerxes A Trinidad INF (GSC) PA said, “I am deeply impressed with the commitment of the different agencies in responding the call of the local community in 36 VALOR

ending insurgency. Thru this activity, our intent is to give hope and show to them that the government and other stakeholders are looking after them and committed to pursue peace and development efforts in their community”

“If this kind of convergence shall be focused targeting those conflict affected areas and can be sustained, people will be satisfied and would never think of joining any groups that destabilizes the peace and development for their communities. A community that is a conflict
resilient and ready to accept the challenge to the attainment of just and lasting peace in the province”, Lt Col Trinidad added.
