BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte -- The troops of 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion (23IB), 402nd Brigade, Philippine Army encountered more or less 20 CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNTs) in a remote barangay in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur on June 5, 2019 at around 6:40 a.m.

Upon receiving the information about the presence of armed group, Lt. Col. Francisco L Molina Jr, 23IB Commanding Officer, immediately sent troops to check on the report. Upon reaching the area, the troops
encountered more or less 20 fully-armed CNTs believed to be remnants of FGF 8, NCMRC. The firefight lasted for about five minutes, after which the enemy withdrew towards the southwest direction.


While scouring the area, the government troops recovered two pieces anti-personnel mines, two blasting caps, detonator, two pieces 20 round magazines of M16, one-piece magazine of cal. 45 pistol, one-piece trigger assembly of Garand, 67 pcs 7.62mm ammunition, 41 pieces 5.56mm ammunition, one-piece 100-meter electric wire, 34 pieces D-size Eveready battery, two pieces AA-size Eveready battery, one-piece Sanwa Digital multi-meter, two pieces 1000ml Dextrose, one piece Tramadol Hydrochloride Ampule, two valid IDs, assorted food supplies, personal belonging and subversive documents.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Molina thanked the people of Esperanza for giving them timely information on the CNT's whereabouts.

“I am glad that there are concerned civilian stakeholders who do not allow the CNTs to manipulate and deceive them anymore. With that, we can easily avert their hostile plans in the community," he said.



"Rest assured that the remaining CNTs will soon be dismantled with everyone's cooperation. We also encourage the remaining CNT members to abandon armed struggle and go back to the folds of the government. There are many good opportunities that awaits you here,” Lt. Col. Molina added.

Col. Maurito Licudine, 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander, recognized the commendable efforts of the 23IB especially the participation of concerned citizens in every encounter of government troops against the terrorist group. "This is the essence of the Whole of Nation approach under the EO70, the contribution of each sector particularly the crucial role of the peace-loving people in defeating the insurgency problem," he said.
