From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 7, 2019): 1 dead, 3 injured in 'NPA' wake shooting
One person was killed while three others were injured during a shooting incident allegedly perpetrated by New People’s Army (NPA) members at a wake in Barangay Buenavista in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Thursday evening.
A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) identified the fatality as Rosemar Tayting Melancolico, 43, of Barangay Buenavista.
Melancolico died of multiple gunshot wounds after six unidentified armed men opened fire at him at about 9:25 p.m. at a wake the victims attended in their barangay. He was declared dead at the Guihulngan District Hospital.
Wounded in the incident were Sherwin Recablanca, 38, and Jason D. Lumapay, 23, both of Barangay Buenavista; and Ian Bert Susas Doremon, 24, of Barangay Mabunay in Guihulngan City.
The three, hit by stray bullets, were taken to the Guihulngan District Hospital and were reported to be doing well.
According to a police investigation, the three said the suspects shouted that they were NPA members before fleeing on foot.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, NOPPO spokesperson Staff Master Sgt. Edilberto Euraoba III said.
