Talisay City, Negros Occidental. A two month old baby was left orphaned when the parent ran away from the troops of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion, responding to NPA threats in Hacienda Ambulong, Brgy. San Fernando, Talisay City.
Upon receiving reports about NPA’s presence within a community, 79th IB responded to the residents’ call for help. Before the soldiers arrived at the site where NPA presence were reported, the rebels swiftly ran from the area escaping their arrests.
As the troops from 79th IB were scouring the area, they found a 2 month old baby lying alone on one of the houses from where the rebels left. The soldiers were able to verify from one of the houses’ Landlord that the baby was the child of one of the NPA rebels who fled the area.
The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, Major Cenon Pancito, released a statement condemning the cowardly act done by the rebels saying;
“Dito natin makita na itong mga NPA kung gaano ka walang puso na kahit pa sa kanilang mga anak, ay wala ang kanilang pagmamahal, dito natin makikita na kung gaano talaga kamali ang institusyon nitong NPA na ito, sapagkat tinatanggal nito sa mga mamamayan yung pagmamahal niya mismo doon sa mga anak”
(“By leaving their child, we can see that the NPAs are heartless people, people without love. Through this we can see that there is really something wrong with the institution (NPA) because they remove from their members the love they have, even for their children”)
Maj Pancito on the same statement said that the child was turned over to PNP and as of the moment were handed over to the custody of Talisay Social Welfare Department for the child to receive the proper care it deserves.
