MAASIN CITY Nov. 20 (PIA) -- Government interventions in ELCAC priority barangays in Bontoc, Southern Leyte are seen to empower residents after a year inter-agency convergence.These ELCAC priority barangays include Olisihan, Pamig-sian, Hilaan and Hitawos.
In a follow-up ELCAC Grand Pulong-pulong and Lokal Serbisyo Caravans held on November 13, 16 and 17, 2020, a newly constructed covered court in barangays Olisihan and Pamigsi-an were turned over to the said barangays with funding from the coffers of the provincial government of Southern Leyte headed by Provincial Governor Damian Mercado.
Both barangays were the venue of the convergence meetings last year together with the 14th IB Philippine Army. Meetings were held at the small and dilapidated structures and used canvass materials to serve as the extended roof.
The covered court in Brgy Pamigsi-an costs P2.4-M according to Punong Barangay Eduardo Papa.
Another new structure in Brgy. Pamigsi-an, which is a bakery store, with four ovens, gas tanks and hoses from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) were also turned over to the barangay on November 13.
DOLE-Southern Leyte Field Office complements with TESDA skills training outputs by providing the tool kits for the bread making livelihood project for the 20 women-beneficiaries in the barangay.
According to TESDA Provincial Head Elizabeth Garcia, the bakery store is the output of the actual carpentry, masonry and tile setting skills training for men in the mentioned. Barangay.
In Brgy. Pamigsi-an alone, a total of 120 TESDA scholarship grantees benefited last year, Garcia added. (ldl/esg/PIA Southern Leyte)
