Kalinaw News: Army continues feeding program for children of FRs in AgNor

Posted to Kalinaw News (Jul 15, 2020): Army continues feeding program for children of FRs in AgNor (PRESS RELEASE By Kalinaw News)

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte – True to their commitment, the troopers of 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion continued the conduct of a regular feeding program for the children of former rebels (FRs) in Agusan del Norte.

Last Sunday, July 12, a total of twenty-four ( 24) children of FRs benefited from the continuous feeding program of the unit conducted at the 23rd IB headquarters at Jamboree Site, Purok 6, Barangay Alubihid, Buenavista town.

It can be recalled that last July 5, the 23rd IB troopers started the feeding program for the twenty seven ( 27 ) children of FRs. Based on the findings of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the area who were also present during the activity, out of the twenty seven (27) children present, five (5) were considered severely underweight (SUW). This prompted Lt. Col. Julius Cesar C. Paulo, commander of 23rd IB to make the feeding program a regular activity of the unit to monitor the health condition of the children of the FRs inside the headquarters.

Last Sunday’s feeding activity was done in partnership with the youth group Batang Masigasig POINTY where each of the children were served with a nutritious hot macaroni soup, bread and a glass of juice for their afternoon snacks. After consuming their food, the boys were given a free haircut by the “Pogi Team” of 23IB.

Paulo said that the continuity of the feeding program aims to monitor the Body Mass Index (BMI) of the children. BMI determines the person’s weight with respect to their height and age.

“In the midst of the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), it is important to boost the immune system of the children and maintain their physical health to prevent diseases from infecting their bodies. One factor that can contribute to the healthy growth and development of every child is proper nutrition,” Paulo said.

He also emphasized that the children of FRs must be given proper care as they will soon become the future leaders of the nation.

“We will ensure to aid the nutritional deficiencies of every child of the FRs because it will affect their physical growth and development. At an early age, they are sensitive to dietary deficiencies which will affect the development of their brains and it will cause inattentiveness in school and disinterest in learning. These children will be the future leaders of our country. Their future is our main concern that’s why we give attention to their health status by giving them a balanced nutrition and a safe environment to live for them to develop their full potential,” Paulo said.
