BAGUIO CITY, Nov.5 (PIA) - - The newly designated Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Cordillera stressed to peace and development prime movers the importance of intensifying convergence in delivering socio – economic development programs in geographically isolated and depressed areas to end the concern on insurgency and other poverty - based issues in the region .
Agriculture Secretary William Dar who assumed as CORDS for CAR on October 3 vice Department of Budget Undersecretary Janet Abuel, presided a meeting with heads of offices that compose the Cordillera Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF – ELCAC) on Thursday at the DA – CAR Conference Hall here to tackle development and security concerns in the region.
Dar affirmed his commitment to work as CORDS for the region stressing on the whole – of – nation approach in strengthening convergence in bringing socio – economic development programs towards addressing the insurgency issue, peace and order and other poverty - related concerns especially in the remote barangays in the region.
For the agriculture department, Dar shared the Special Area for Agricultural Development program that aims to deliver projects to poor provinces/communities in the different parts of the country.
“I believe we can do much more in enhancing the growth of Cordillera,” Dar said, adding that working for Cordillera is just like homecoming for him having studied and spent part of his multi – awarded career at the Benguet State University.
The meeting included a briefer on the guidelines on the operationalization of Executive Order 70, which institutionalizes the Whole – of – Nation Approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace and creating the National NTF – ELCAC, situationer of the local communist armed conflict in the region, and significant accomplishments of the RTF – ELCAC.
NEDA – CAR Regional Director Milagros Rimando also presented the Cordillera Regional Development Council functions, memberships and committees and the region’s pursuit regional autonomy. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
