Hunt on for suspects in N. Cotabato tricycle ambush

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 29, 2019): Hunt on for suspects in N. Cotabato tricycle ambush

Police authorities in North Cotabato are pursuing two gunmen who ambushed and injured three persons in a tricycle along the highway in Makilala town, over the weekend.

Initial information showed that the incident may have been a gang war involving the tricycle driver and another group, said Major Johnny Rick Felongco Medel, Makilala town police chief.

Medel identified Monday the injured victims as Denmark Malasan, 21, tricycle driver and a resident of Kidapawan City; Mark Joseph Linao, 27; and Percila Marimon, 41, a midwife, both of Makilala town. They are now recuperating at a hospital in Kidapawan City, he added.

The tricycle was heading to Kidapawan City from Makilala town proper when two men onboard a motorbike overtook and opened fire on Malasan along the section of the highway in Barangay Saguing, Makilala at 8 p.m. Saturday.

“Manhunt has been launched; we have persons of interest,” said Medel, adding that police found empty shells from .45-caliber and 9-mm pistols at the crime scene.

Colonel Maximo Layugan, North Cotabato police director, has ordered the regular conduct of patrols along the dimly-lit portion of the highway.
