From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Oct 16): TREACHERY | NPA disrupts Community Development Support event in Ilocos Sur
CAMP GEN SERVILLANO AQUINO, Tarlac City (DWDD) – A section of 81st Infantry Battalion was conducting Community Development Support Program (cleaning up and other civic assistance) in the Elementary School of Barangay Patiacan, Quirino, Ilocos Sur at 4 o’clock in the afternoon of October 15, 2017, when they were fired upon by an unknown number of New People’s Army terrorists believed to be members of KLG Montes.
Two soldiers were initially wounded in the incident which eventually resulted to the death of one (1). Both soldiers were immediately given first-aid and transported by barangay officials headed by Barangay Chairman Florentino Bawingan to Quirino Primary Health Care for medication by 5:30 PM. Unfortunately, one (1) casualty was declared Dead On Arrival (DOA) at 6:50 PM due to gunshot wound at his anterior neck, while the other wounded personnel is now in a stable condition. Additional troops are sent to the area to pursue the perpetrators.
The Northern Luzon Command is saddened by this terroristic incident targeting personnel engaged in a community development support activity. Such atrocities are condemned by the people as the NPA hinder the delivery of the basic services and development.
