From ABS-CBN (Jan 19): New 6th Infantry Division commander to step up war on terrorism, illegal drugs
MAGUINDANAO — Brig. Gen. Arnel dela Vega has been named the new commander of the 6th Infantry Division, after Maj. Gen. Carlito Galvez was appointed on Tuesday to the top post of the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The turnover ceremony was held at the 6th Infantry Division grounds Thursday and presided by Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda.
In his speech, Dela Vega said his priority would be to uphold the peace process and intensify the campaign against terrorism and illegal drugs.
On the other hand, Galvez said destroying the backbone of the Abu Sayyaf Group and rescuing its hostages will be on top of his to-do list over the next 6 months.
He also vowed to intensify the campaign against the Maute group and to support the president's war on illegal narcotics.
The 6th Infantry Division was also named the country's best army division based on the annual general inspection conducted in 2016.
