Government troops rescued two Filipino captives of the Abu Sayyaf group in a village of Indanan town, Sulu on Thursday morning.
The victims were identified as Dolcesimo Almires and Esteban Janamjam, according to a report of Joint Task Force Sulu reaching the Western Mindanao Command.
The victims were rescued by the joint elements of the JFTS led by Lt. Col. Arnel Baccay of the Air Intelligence Service Group and Joint Intelligence Task Force Sulu led by Lt. Col. Yusop Hassan.
The victims were rescued about 9:15 a.m. at Barangay Tagbak, Indanan town.
The two victims were immediately brought to the JTFS headquarters at Camp Teodulfo Bautista in Jolo town.
The military said that, based on the debriefing, the victims were taken last October 25 in the waters off Pangutaran, Sulu. They said they were held by the Abu Sayyaf group led by sub-leader Jaber Susukan in Barangay Kumapid, Talipao town.
The victims said they were being escorted by two Abu Sayyaf members to an area in Parang town when they were intercepted and rescued by government forces.
Their Abu Sayyaf escorts fled after sensing the presence of the government forces.
The victims were given and medical checkup and later flown to this city and brought to the Westmincom for further checkup and tactical debriefing before being handed over to their families.
The Abu Sayyaf is believed to still be holding a Dutch national, a German, four Indonesians, five Malaysians, six Vietnamese, and six Filipinos somewhere in Sulu.
