The most wanted criminal in Lanao del Norte surrendered to authorities in the interior village of Dansalan in Sapad town, Lanao del Norte on Wednesday, August 31, around 11:30 a.m.

Captain Rene Belmonte Jr., Operations Officer of the 15th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army based in Salvador, identified the suspect as Pendatun Alando, the prime suspect of the ambush of former Nunungan town Mayor Adullah Manamparan in the campaign period in Nunungan on May 6, 2013. At least 13 were killed and several others wounded.

Manamparan was among the victims who survived the ambush on board a dump truck.

Belmonte said the joint operation with the Philippine National Police was based on the Warrant of Arrest penned by Judge Alberto Quinto, Acting Presiding Judge of Regional Trial Court 12th Judicial Region, Branch 21, in Kapatagan town.

Belmonte said Alando was turned over to the Police Provincial Headquarters Command in Pigcarangan, Tubod town in Lanao del Norte and later brought to the Provincial Hospital for medical checkup.

Alando is detained at the Lanao del Norte provincial jail while waiting for his arraignment.

Alando together with the other suspects who are still at large were charged with multiple frustrated murder.
