1 hurt in Cotabato City roadside blast

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 2): 1 hurt in Cotabato City roadside blast

A sidewalk vendor was injured when an improvised bomb exploded along Quezon Avenue, this city Friday morning, the fourth blast that hit the city since Saturday.

Police reports said the blast occurred at 7 a.m. in front of the main entrance of Padama Hotel.

Normanan Baliwan, a resident of Barangay Malagapas and a sidewalk vendor, told reporters he was sweeping his stall and put the garbage in a bin when the basket suddenly exploded.

Police post blast investigators are still on the site to gather pieces of evidence.

The victim sustained very minor injuries since the improvised explosive device has no shrapnel.

Three grenade attacks hit the city on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a grenade was lobbed at the main gate of National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Maguindanao office. Nobody was hurt.

On Monday afternoon, a grenade was lobbed at the roof of Police Station 2 office. It did not explode.

Last Saturday, a smoke grenade was thrown at the office of Traffic Management Unit that police believed was aimed at creating confusion so the detainees could escape.

The TMU office is located beside the Police Station 1 lock up cell.
