TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Feb. 15 (PIA)—With the continuous project visitation dubbed as “Bisita ni PD at COP”, a responsive and holistic approach to reach out remote areas which have been the seat of the communist groups, three more New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered to Rizal Police Station in Rizal, Cagayan on February 12.
Police Colonel Ariel N. Quilang, acting provincial director of Cagayan Police Provincial Office, said that the rebels were listed based on Periodic Status Report on Threat Groups (PSRTG).
The rebel surrenderees were: alias Ka “Randy”, single, farmer, identified as rank no. 52 on the PSRTG; Ka “Jeff”, 24, single, farmer, identified as rank no. 63; and Ka “Gimie”, single, farmer, identified as rank no. 66. The three are all residents of barangay Masi in the said town, one of the barangays that composed the insurgency-affected Zinundungan Valley.
The NPA members were under Ka Simoy and recruited erstwhile in 2015 according to Quilang.
With their voluntarily surrender, Quilang assured the former rebels that they will be enrolled to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government which will give an immediate financial assistance to them, livelihood, housing, education, and other programs that will enable them to begin a new life.
Quilang is confident that with the declaration of the CPP-NPA-NDF as “Persona Non Grata” and creation of localized Task Force to End Local Communist and Armed Conflict, rebels operating in the province will be encouraged to return under the folds of the law for them to start a new life and live peacefully with their families.
