Kalinaw News: 2 Firearms, 1 IED recovered as Army-NPA clash in Agusan del Norte

Posted to Kalinaw News (Feb 16, 2020): 2 Firearms, 1 IED recovered as Army-NPA clash in Agusan del Norte (By 402nd Infantry "Stingers" Brigade, Philippine Army)

Bancasi, Butuan City – Two (2) Firearms and one (1) Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered when the 29 th Infantry Battalion under the Operational Control of 402 nd Infantry Brigade clashed against more or less seven (7) CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) at Sitio Palidan, Brgy Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte on February 11, 2020 around 11:25 in the morning.

Government troops engaged more or less seven (7) CNTs believed to be members of Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP) 21C belonging to Guerilla Front (GF) 21 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) in a fifteen (15) minute firefight that resulted to the seizure one (1) AK47 rifle, one (1) shotgun, and one (1) Anti-Personnel Mine (APM) improvised explosive device.

The series of combat operations against enemy presence in the said area was conducted after residents disclosed that CNTs frequented their barangay and even established a camp nearby.

No casualty was reported from the government side while undetermined on the CNTs but heavy bloodstains were discovered along their escape route.

Since January this year, the 402 nd Brigade recorded a total of twelve (12) encounters mostly coming from the information and tips of the local residents who are fed up of the CNTs continuous extortion and threat of chaos in their barangay.

In his statement, Brigadier General Maurito L Licudine, Commander of the 402 nd Infantry Brigade said, “It is tragic that the CNTs continue to fight our government because we are all Filipinos. This could have been avoided if they had not resorted to violence and terroristic acts. But we have a mandate to do in protecting the Filipino people and securing our land. In this situation and even in our past encounters, people have clearly resented the presence of these terrorists as they have been informing us on the locations of the CNTs. They just want to live in peace without threat and terror from the CNTs.”

Brigadier General Licudine indicated the continuous and blatant disregard by the CNTs of the International Humanitarian Law that restricts and banned the use of land mine. He also calls for the wounded CNTs from the said encounter. “We are calling those who may have information about the wounded CNTs to come forward. Encourage them to surrender now, rest assured that we will help them, give them proper medical care and treatment and keep them safe. We reiterate our call for them to avail the E-CLIP. Their families awaits their return.”
