Kalinaw News: LGU, army hold Convergence Awareness Campaign in Surigao del Sur town

TAGO, Surigao del Sur, Feb 16 – The Local Government Unit of San Miguel in partnership with the army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion hold a convergence awareness campaign to the students of Sagbayan National High School, San Miguel, this province last February 13, 2020, at 9 o’clock in the morning.

The said convergence awareness campaign was conducted thru the collaborative efforts of the Community Support Program (CSP) team of the Army’s 36IB and the Local Municipal Nutrition Office and Division Health Team of LGU San Miguel which aims to intensify its information and education campaign to the students of Sagbayan National High School and Sagbayan Elementary School.

During the activity, Mr Jessebel M Esparagoza, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of San Miguel gave a lecture about Healthy Lifestyle and Mrs Mary Jane A. Onganyo, Health Coordinator discussed and gave insights about Teenage Pregnancy and its consequence. While the personnel of the 36IB conducted film showing and gave a lecture about the Communist NPA Terrorist deceptive tactics of recruitment to students and youth sector.

The activity was also highlighted with the free medical check-up and dental services offered from the Division Health Team headed by Dr Andrew Lumang, Medical Officer III and a free hair cut from the 36IB. Also, the school provide porridge as part of the DepEd School-Based Feeding Program to the students.

An estimated four hundred (400) students from Sagbayan National High School and Sagbayan Elementary School to include the faculty and staff participated and benefited the free services.

In a statement, Lt Col Jezreel Diagmel, Acting Commander of 36IB said that the convergence of efforts of the Local Government Unit of San Miguel and the 36IB show a strong partnership in providing the basic needs and services to its constituents.

“We need to show them feel that there is a government that truly cares and protect,” Lt Col Diagmel said. He further added that the strong collaboration and commitment in providing services to the people is a manifestation that the government is sincere in its efforts in bringing the people closer to the government as what the Presidents call in the Whole of Nation Approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in the region.
