FORT ANDRES BONIFACIO, Taguig City (DWDD) – The Philippine Army celebrates its 119th Founding Anniversary, March 22, 2016 in a ceremony at the Headquarters Philippine Army in Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City.

The celebration is led by Lt Gen Eduardo Año, Commanding General of the Philippine Army with this year’s theme “Serving the People, Securing the Land.”

President and Armed Force of the Philippines Commander-in-Chief Benigno Aquino III is the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

Recognition was feted select officers, enlisted personnel, stakeholders, Cafgus, Cadets and civilian employees of the organization.

Major General Edmundo R Pangilinan AFP, PMA Class 83, a native of San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija and currently the Commanding General of the 6th Infantry Division, will be receiving the Gawad sa Kapayapaan Award for outstanding services rendered to internal peace and security and valuable contribution in promoting societal understanding and reconciliation in his capacity as Commander of 6ID, PA and concurrent Commander of the Joint Task Force Central (JTFC). With exceptional leadership, managerial acumen and incessant motivation, the 6ID contributed immensely to the attainment of the unprecedented peace and development that now prevails over Central Mindanao. He supported fully the government’s Peace initiatives by working with the office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) and other non-government organizations, international humanitarian organizations and civil society organizations, making sure that the peace mechanisms and programs are implemented, for the benefit of the local populace and for the advancement of peace in the area. He likewise supported the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) through the secure conduct of “Normalization” programs such as the Symbolic Decommissioning of Firearms and Combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front  (MILF) last 16 June 2015 at Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao that was graced by President Benigno Aquino III on 15 June 2015.
