China tells US, PH: Do not target a country on your cooperation

From Update.Ph (Mar 21): China tells US, PH: Do not target a country on your cooperation

CVN 74 participates in a replenishment at sea with USNS Rainier (T-AOE 7) and CG 53 in West Philippine Sea, March 4.

The Chinese government said that the deal granting United States access on five Philippine military bases should not be intended to target a third country.

“The US-Philippines cooperation should not target a third party, even less jeopardize the sovereign and security interests of other countries or affect regional peace and stability,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a press conference today.

She also added “that the US military has kept talking about the so-called militarization in the South China Sea. Maybe they can explain whether their increased military deployment in the South China Sea and nearby areas is an action of militarization or not?”

On Friday, March 18, the Philippines and US have agreed on five locations to be used under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) during the Sixth Annual US-Philippines Strategic Dialogue in US.

These five agreed locations are Antonio Bautista Air Base in Palawan, Basa Air Base in Pampanga, Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, Lumbia airport in Cagayan de Oro, and Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base in Cebu. These locations will be provided for rotating American troops and military hardware.
