From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Mar 21): COMBAT LEADERSHIP II President Aquino to Award Officer of 73IB
MALITA, Davao Occidental (DWDD) – An officer assigned in 73IB stationed in Davao Del Sur will receive award from Philippine Army which will be presented by President Benigno S. Aquino tomorrow, March 22, Tuesday during the 119th Anniversary of the Philippine Army to be held at Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.
2Lt. Franz Arvin Balmaceda based in Malita, Davao Del Sur will receive Gold Cross Medal, the third highest combat award, for his combat leadership in leading his men on the successful neutralization of seven lawless armed men at Datal Anggas, Alabel, Sarangani Province on February 16, 2015.
The encounter resulted to the recovery of 9 high powered firearms, killing of 7 NPA rebels, three Improvised Explosive Device (IED), subversive documents and other war materials. The encounter eventually led to the surrender of another 13 rebels after pursuit operation was conducted.
On July 2, 2015, Guerilla Front 75 was eventually dissolved by higher headquarters for the severe reduction of its members and firearms and clearing of its influence barangays.
Lt. Col. Ronnie Babac, the Battalion Commander of 73IB, lauded Lt. Balmaceda for his courage in the face of danger. “Lt. Balmaceda displayed the character of a leader worth emulating. Despite being outnumbered, he led his troops to a more vantage position and out maneuvered the armed group that resulted to the success of the operation.” Babac said. CMO 73 IB / MCAG
