Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – Six armed personalities were apprehended in a joint checkpoint operation in Sultan Naga Dimaporo (SND), Lanao del Norte a day after the election (May 10, 2022)

According to Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Commander of the 1st Infantry Division/Joint Task Force ZamPeLan, a dump truck loaded with 40 personalities, and a Toyota Hilux of the local government unit of Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur were flagged down by the combined elements of the 5th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, SND Municipal Police Station, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the intelligence units during the conduct of a checkpoint operation in Barangay Tagulo, same municipality.

Upon inspection, government forces discovered that some of the passengers violated the election gun ban and were subsequently apprehended. They were identified as Esmail Wali, a.k.a. Commander, 42 years old and known as the leader of the Macari Group; Adam Tando, 58 years old; Fausto Guinita, 40 years old; Sangbaan Acut, 58 years old, all residents of Barangay Koreo, SND; and Tristan Baguio and Resil Revillas, both employed at the LGU of Midsalip.

Seized from their possession were three 5.56mm M16A1 rifles, one 5.56mm M4 rifle, one 7.62mm M14 rifle, one cal. 45 submachine gun, one cal. 50 Barret rifle, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, one 9mm submachine gun, four cal. 45 pistol, one 9mm pistol, one cal. 38 revolver, one rifle grenade, and assorted magazines and ammunition. Other confiscated items include one hunting knife, one RPG booster, and a total amount of PHP42, 9000.00 incash.

Based on the report, the flagged down vehicles were traversing the Malabang-Dableston Tukuran Road from the municipality of Midsalip bound to SND.

Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command said that the COMELEC Gun Ban is still in effect. “The COMELEC Resolution No. 10728 prohibits bearing, carrying, or transporting firearms or deadly weapons outside of the residence and in all public places from January 9 until June 8.”
