Army soldiers rescued a family of five trapped in rising floods in Cainta, Rizal at the height of Typhoon Ulysses early Thursday.

When informed about a family asking for help, Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commanding general of the Philippine Army, immediately dispatched soldiers to launch a rescue operation.

The rescue unit arrived at the Country Home subdivision in Cainta at about 4:30 pm and safely rescued the family of Sharon Escario.

In an interview, Escario said her two teenage daughters – Angelize and Iah-- were crying when floodwater surged into their home before midnight on Wednesday.

Her brother, Benny James, and a visitor, Cris, who was trapped in their house at the height of the typhoon, stayed calm and prayed to be evacuated when the rescue Army team arrived.

She said they did not sleep and “we prayed all night long hoping the rain would stop.”

“But the rain continued to pour, accompanied by gusty wind,” Escario said. “What scared us more was when a snake suddenly appeared from the floodwater.”

The typhoon left many areas submerged in floods as it swept through Luzon.

Escario thanked Sobejana for dispatching a rescue unit “for bringing them to safety with God’s blessing.”
