Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 13, 2020): 12 More ‘Exhausted’ LTGs Yield in Maguindanao

CAMP Siongco, Maguindanao – At least 12 members of the Local Terrorist Group – Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) have surrendered to the security forces of Joint Task Force Central and 6th Infantry (KAMILAN) Division in Barangay Tuka, Mamasapano, Maguindanao on November 10, 2020.

The former rebels under Karialan faction surrendered to 33rd Infantry (MAKABAYAN) Battalion and handed over their weapons: two M14 rifles, four Barret sniper rifles, one UZI sub-machine gun, one M16 rifle and two Garrand rifles. These former BIFF combatants are residents of Mamasapano and Radjah Buayan both in Maguindanao.

Lt. Col. Elmer Boongaling, the Commanding Officer of the 33rd IB, said that a combination of military operations and community engagements in the area have triggered the recent surrender of the former rebels.

Said surrenderees were formally presented to Major General Juvymax R. Uy, Commander of 6th ID and JTF Central together with Datu Abdullah Sangki Mayor Datu Ali Mangudadatu, Mayor Akmad Datu Bots Ampatuan of Mamasapano town and Mayor Datu Yacob Ampatuan of Radjah Buayan municipality during the surrender rites at the Headquarters of 33IB in Barangay Zapakan, Radjah Buayan, Maguindanao.

“We realized the futility of our cause and we do not know what we are fighting for anymore,” said one of the surrenderees.

“Our Troops in JTF Central together with other government agencies and other stakeholders through unity efforts have pooled resources in the conduct of intelligence-driven operations inside the lairs of the known rebel groups. Likewise, we have engaged the people to change perceptions and lure the insurgents back to the folds of the law,” said Maj. Gen. Uy in his speech.

The Local Chief Executives of the said municipalities lauded the efforts of the military and other stakeholders that have worked together to make this peace and reconciliation effort a reality.
