SAN FERNANDO CITY, Nov. 30 (PIA) - - The Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL) had successfully held a four-day Fleet-Marine amphibious exercise dubbed as ‘Pagsisikap’ 2019 in Zambales and Pangasinan on November 25 – 28.
Marine Captain Jojit R. Ofiaza, the spokesperson of the NFNL based in Poro Point, City of San Fernando, La Union, said the naval exercise had two components to enhance the capability of the country’s naval forces.
These components include the humanitarian activity conducted in San Fabian, Pangasinan on November 26 -27, and the amphibious exercise held in the coastal area of San Antonio, Zambales on November 25-28.
The formal culmination of the exercise was held in Hanjin Shipyard, Subic, Zambales on November 28, 2019.
“The ‘Pagsisikap’ 2019 is a Fleet-Marine amphibious exercise conducted by the Philippine Navy to develop and achieve an amphibious-capable and credible force and at the same time enable Fleet-Marine forces to be more efficient in the conduct of their tasks,” said Ofiaza.
A total of 350 sailors, 160 marines and 70 reservists from the Naval Reserve Center Northern Luzon based in Bunoan, Dagupan City, Pangasinan have participated in the exercise.
During the amphibious activity, the navy utilized the recently-acquired landing dock platform BRP Davao Del Sur (LD-602), patrol escort vessel, BRP Pangasinan (PS-31), Philippine Marine Corps special operating units, the Naval Air Wing’s AW 109 helicopter, the Navy’s SEAL team, and Naval Combat Engineering team.
According to Ofiaza, the exercise was focused on the Fleet-Marine Operations concept with emphasis on amphibious operations employing the amphibious assault vehicles of the Philippine Marine Corps with follow-up operations at the shore.
The naval exercise also aims to further develop Fleet-Marine units that are capable of and competent in planning and executing amphibious operations in support of the Navy’s Capability Development Plan.
He said the maneuvers at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and in the vicinity of Naval Education, Training and Doctrine Command, Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui in Zambales started on November 24.
"The exercise focused on Fleet-Marine's concept of operations to sustain the Fleet-Marine unit’s competency in planning and execution of Amphibious Operations and test the Amphibious Task Group (ATG) concept and support to Philippine Navy’s Capability Development Plan,” he said.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian activity is part of the Civil-Military Operation and Community Relations activities of the exercise.
“This exercise was held in support of the overall campaign thrust of Northern Luzon (NOLCOM) and to enhance the relationship, cooperation and trust of the community to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),” said Ofiaza. (JCR/FGL, PIA 1)
