NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - Units under Eastern Mindanao Command figured in various encounters in North Eastern Mindanao as a result of a sustained focus military operations against the Communist Terrorist Group CTG) in the Region and the continuous flow of information from the communities
Early morning of November 30, 2019, elements of 23rd Infantry Battalion acting on an information from the barangay encountered an undetermined number of CTGs in Sitio Salvacion, Brgy Manila de Bugabos, Butuan City.
The firefight, which lasted for about 15 minutes, resulted in the death of one CTG member, recovery of two AK-47 rifles; and two M653 Baby Armalite rifles.
The cadaver was properly turned-over to the Philippine National Police for proper disposition.
In a separate instance, patrolling elements of 88th Infantry Battalion figured in a running gun battle with the CTGs being monitored in uninhabited and forested area of “Natampod” Brgy Lumintao, Quezon, Bukidnon at about eight o'clock in the morning of November 30, 2019. It is believed that the terrorists suffered casualties during the said skirmish.
Meanwhile, firearms and various ammunitions were recovered after elements from 29th Infantry Battalion chanced upon members of CTG around around 4:30 in the afternoon on November 27, 2019, at Sitio Manhupaw, Brgy Bangonay, Jabonga, Agusan del Norte.
The CTGs, believed to be the same group that was encountered by same unit on November 21, 2019 at the same area, scampered to different directions leaving one M4A1 rifle, one M14 rifle, one M203 Grenade Launcher, personal belongings subversive documents and paraphernalia.
Lt. Gen. Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command aside from the series of encounters to the information from the communities, he likewise attributed it to the communities declaration of the CTGs as persona non grata in their areas. He further directed units to sustain the momentum of running after the armed group.
"The NPAs are running out of space as communities vanished them from their places by declaring them persona non grata, these encounters are results of information by the communities leading our troops on their whereabouts." Lt.Gen. Santos Jr. said
Let us therefore take advantage of the support of the communities and maximize our capability in running the armed group and make them understand the aspiration of communities of a peaceful environment and realize the strong resolve of the government to end conflict and the futility of the armed struggle they are embracing" Lt. Gen Santos Jr., added.
