The former Joint Task Zamboanga Commander will now lead the 102nd Infantry (Igsoon) Brigade in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Col. Leonel Nicolas succeeded Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., who is set to take post as the Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division after a one year and two months stint as a brigade commander.
A member of the Philippine Military Academy, Class of 1991, Col. Nicholas is an Airborne Ranger and well-rounded military officer with expertise in operations, intelligence, and managerial acumen.
Col. Nicolas expressed his commitment to perform and contribute to the Task Force ELCAC, during the change of command ceremony held at the 102nd Brigade headquarters in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on August 19.
He also expressed that convergence effort among government agencies, security forces, and stakeholders will address the problem of insurgency.
“I am confident that, with his expertise and capability, the new brigade commander can sustain the gains of the brigade and can contribute in the attainment of a just and sustainable peace in Western Mindanao,” said Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Joint Task Force Zampelan Commander.
“I trust that Col. Nicolas will be able to deliver in commanding the brigade and in continuing the remarkable accomplishments of his predecessor,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
