AUTHORITIES have arrested another member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) involved in the kidnapping of plantation workers 16 years ago in Basilan, an official announced Thursday.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested ASG member as Said Arik alias Amlah, 48, a resident of Balatanay village, Isabela City, Basilan. Galvez said Arik was arrested at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Binuangan, Isabela City.
She said Arik has standing warrant of arrest for seven-count kidnapping and serious illegal detention for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of workers at the Golden Harvest Plantation in the village of Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan on June 11, 2001.
The suspect was so far the 11th ASG member, involved in the plantation workers’ kidnapping, the authorities have apprehended since January 1 this year. Ten of the 11 were arrested separately in Zamboanga City. Arik was the first to be arrested in Basilan province.
