From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 10): 6th Infantry Division medical outreach program benefits 1,019 patients

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao, -- More than 1,000 soldiers, dependents, and residents from the nearby barangays of Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao availed the health care fair over the weekend, officials said today.

Maj. Gen. Carlito Galvez, 6th Infanfry Division commander, spearheaded the activity by donating blood "so others may live," the 6th ID information office said in a statement.

The health care fair was one of the series of activities in line with the upcoming 29th Founding Anniversary of 6th Infantry Division on October 24, 2016.

The event included medical consultation, acupuncture, body massage, eye check-up, dental check-up, and bloodletting that collected a total of 199 bags of blood.

Galvez said staff and medical personnel of the Camp Siongco Station Hospital have facilitated the health care fair in partnership with the Department of Health and Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC).

Dr. Lydia Mercado, MD, Notre Dame Hospital medical director in Cotabato City was the guest of honor and speaker.

Mercado expressed her positive appreciation in conducting such health services.

Galvez said the organizers also distributed free reading glasses to first 200 patients, facial services, free fasting blood sugar and blood uric acid determination, free fluoride application, nutrition booth, herbal booth and aesthetics services offered.

Over the years, 6th ID has been providing medical help to the people as a yearly commitment that intends to cater the underprivileged people in the nearby communities and to benefit the soldiers of the Command as well, Galvez said.

The health care fair program has catered a total of 1,019 patients.
