New People’s Army (NPA) rebels fired at two government camps
in Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte on Saturday.
First to be attacked was the detachment of the Philippine
Army at Barangay Cuyaoyao, Pioduran, Albay at 7 a.m. Saturday.
An undetermined number of NPA members positioned themselves
at about 200 meters away at the eastern portion of the detachment then fired
their weapons directly at the facility for about one minute.
The government troops did not retaliate to avoid casualties
among civilians living at the vicinity.
No one was harmed during the incident.
Upon receipt of the report, personnel of the Pioduran
Municipal Police Station (MPS) led by Police Chief Insp. Marianne l. Fernandez,
assistant chief of police, proceeded to the place of incident and conducted an
investigation.
The police team recovered from the place where the rebels
positioned themselves were one empty shell for M-203 grenade launcher and 64
empty shells for M16 rifle, which it turned over to the personnel of Pioduran
MPS for proper disposition.
In the other incident, the 22nd Infantry Battalion, Charlie
Company, CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) of the Philippine Army was harassed by
about six persons believed to be NPA members who positioned themselves at the
distance of about 600 meters northeast of the camp for more or less than 10
minutes.
No one was hurt on the government side.
A team of one Sgt. Rebualos recovered 125 pieces of empty
shell of M16 rifle and one empty shell of M203 grenade launcher at the place of
the incident.
The items are still in the custody of 22nd IB, Charlie Coy.
